Appreciative in April

My first post in April! That is because of two things: One - I haven't done much walking at all in April; and Two - I have been busy with a new job and haven't had much time to write.

It's amazing how quickly life can change. Nearly six months ago I left a safe job I had been in for almost 3 years, but that I was unhappy in. I took a calculated risk and left this job without another to go to. I spent a couple of months taking some time to myself and thinking about what I wanted to do next. I walked a lot and read a lot and thought a lot.

Three weeks ago I started a new job in the Borders. I no longer have to sit on a bus for an hour and a half to get to Edinburgh for work - I now turn left and drive 25 minutes south. On my way to work I pass Scott's View, and I regularly stop to take a photo of this wonderful viewpoint. On my way home I wind my window down and breathe in the sweet coconutty smell from the gorse. I feel free, and happy.

I get to work in some of the most beautiful places in the Scottish Borders. Two weeks ago I saw my first bat, and on Friday I met Robert the Bruce's 20-times-great-granddaughter. I sometimes have to pinch myself at how lucky I am. The journey to this point has been interesting, full of ups and downs. And there will be plenty more to come. But for now I am appreciative, calm and far more relaxed than I was 6 months ago!
